Nowadays there are hardly any job advertisements in which no foreign language skills are demanded. Regardless of the line of business you work in or want to get involved with. This also applies if you are pursuing university studies at home or abroad or you want to gain experience in other countries or live permanently in a foreign country. Having language skills is often not sufficient – you also have to be able to prove them. When you apply to companies or educational institutions your competency has to be proven in an internationally transparent manner. You can only do so if you submit certificates showing the level of competency in accordance with the Common European Framework (CEF).

Exam preparation pays off

Specific training is also useful for examinations which you cannot “fail”, as the qualification often remains valid for two years after the test was taken (e.g. TOEFL). It therefore makes sense to aim and prepare for a high score on the first attempt thereby also saving the costs of repetition.
